The Skin: Jamela Luxurious Gold Crystal Collagen Mask

If I thought I couldn't look any sexier scarier than I did wearing Rodial's Glamoxy Snake Mask (which you can read about here), then I couldn't have been more wrong. Jamela's anti-ageing mask, infused with the rejuvenating properties of gold along with organic nutrients and anti-oxidants, all in a collagen based sheet mask, is about as good as it gets in the shock department. Sitting at home, wearing the little blighter, sporting an eery, just-stepped-out-of-an-Egyptian-tomb look, I felt duty bound to text my family who were about to return to warn them about what they were about to see. Well, we can't have the mask being held responsible for any undue heart attacks, now can we?

According to Jamela, the "combination of gold and plant collagen contains natural healing properties, tightens the skin and facilitates the removal of toxins". The actual ingredients include: purified water, soya protein, rose oil, amino adic moisturiser, allantoin, 1.2-propanediol, glycerin, ethylene glycol phynel either, hyaluronic acid, phlogopite and gold leaf. As you can see, the gold leaf is last in the list, so I'm not sure how much is in the mask, but it's undisputed that gold has incredible benefits for the skin.

Super easy to apply, (and it smells lovely too, a very light, delicate rose scent), it is placed on to clean skin and that's it. Jamela recommend leaving it on for a minimum of 30 mins, but suggest that it actually ought to stay on for five hours for the full benefit. I'm not sure how many of us can find five solitary hours, but in the interests of research, I did exactly that. Lazy Sundays, I salute you! Thankfully, the mask behaves itself once it's on the face. No slipping or dripping. And as it doesn't dry out to a taut tightness like a clay mask, I could hold a conversation (not that anyone wanted to talk to me!) and even eat and drink - five hours is a long time for me not to do either! Although I'd advise you to keep a drinking straw to hand.....

As the mask dries, it sticks even more closely to the skin, making it even easier to wear. Easier for me, I mean; it never failed to freak anyone out, no matter how many times they looked at me! If you look closely in the photo above, you can see where, after five hours, the mask is drier and "closer" to the skin, including over the eyebrows.

After five hours, the mask peeled easily away, leaving me with soft, moisturised skin that needed no creams or serums to feel cherished. Did the mask live up to its claims? Well my skin looked radiant, luminous, soft and plumped, so I'd give it a big thumbs up.

The mask feels utterly luxurious, but at only £37.50 for a pack of five, it's not a luxury that's priced out of most people's budget. There are also lip masks and under-eye masks for those looking for a more targeted approach - I think those little gold patches for the eye area have got my name written all over them!

Are you a fan of sheet masks? Any you think I should try?

  2. I've used a lot of sheet masks before, but none of them ever had gold in them! I don't suppose they're sold anywhere in Canada?
