Ladies Day is notorious for women taking the opportunity to dress up to the nines, but in an attempt to curb the frankly shocking TOWIE-inspired fashions of strapless, almost-skirtless dresses that were showing up, last year, Royal Ascot laid down the rules. This year they went one stage further, publishing a guide on to what to wear, and more importantly, what NOT to wear. The sartorial rules are clear - Strapless: No. Branded Clothing: No. Fancy dress (heaven forbid!): No. Midriffs must be covered, dress straps must not be sheer. Hats (or fascinators) must be worn at all times, trousers must be full length, and even if you're wearing a jacket or pashmina, whatever's going on underneath must still comply with the rules.
What did I wear? Alexander McQueen, of course! A simple navy dress, fitted and flared in true McQueen style, worn with a creamy, peachy Alexander McQueen fitted jacket and patent YSL Tributes in a nude-goldish colour. It was the first outing for my Chanel bag, and she did me proud! And the all-important hat? Well, sadly I didn't have time to go shopping beforehand, so my only hat hanging around at home did the honours.
It was such a fun day out that I can't wait to go again next year....and next time, I'll make sure to wear a hat befitting the occasion!
