Face Off! Boots 17 Make-Up Challenge

It's time to face the music... or actually, the camera.

As you will have seen in the last post (which you can read here), I'm one of the bloggers that has been selected to take part in the Boots 17 Bloggers Make-Up Challenge.

We were sent some make-up and asked to put together a "face" using the products, posting it here for scrutiny - yikes!

So, here's a reminder of the products:

I decided to go for a Spring Bloom look, recreating the colours of a Spring Bouquet basking in the sunshine.

So here it is, and here's what I used and how I did it:

Base:
First I used my favourite primer (I always use primer under my foundation), and then used a foundation brush to apply the Boots 17 Photo Flawless Foundation all over the face and down my neck area (no tide marks here!). I also sneaked a little of my favourite concealer under the eyes.

Eyes
This is where I spent the most time and boy was it fun! I'm not brave at wearing colour, so decided to really go for it and embraced the green shade in the Hazy Days Eye Palette.

  • First a quick lick of an eye primer that I had kicking around to make sure the colour really popped on the eyelid.
  • I started off with the light brown shade (bottom right hand corner) all over the eye area as a base, using the Eyeshadow Brush.  Then it was full steam ahead with green, from the lash line to the crease line, making sure that the colour was solid all over.
  • Then a little more of the light brown shade under the brow bone to highlight that area, and a touch of the dark bronze shade in the crease line to define.
  • I used the highlighter (top right hand corner) to pick up the area just left and right of the bridge of the nose - not too much, just a smidgen.
  • From the Spring Brights Eye Palette, I use a touch of the yellowish shade (bottom right hand corner) on the inner corner of the eye to open up the eyes and make me look really bright eyed.

  • To define the eye, I used the Soft Liner Eye Pen in Soft Jet (a liquid liner in a really easy to use pen format) at the base of the upper lashes, and then smudged it before it dried using the Eyeliner pencil in Onyx.  Using the pencil to smudge the liquid liner gave it an extra intensity which I loved and I'll definitely do again.
  • I also used the Eye Liner pencil on the lower inner rim (the waterline) and on the upper inner rim, to intensify the lashes.
  • Can I just say, I loved the mascara!  I used two coats of Peep Show on the top and one coat on the bottom, and what a result!

Cheeks:
Using the Blusher Brush, I swept the Instant Blow Pink Bronze Bronzing Rock over my cheek bones and the result was perfectly airbrushed skin in an instant. Any leftovers in the brush were applied lightly  over my forehead and down the nose to highlight.
I used the Instant Glow in Medium Bronze just under the cheekbones to define and chisel, to get that 1970's "Glamazon" look.

Lips:
Using the (cleaned) eyeshadow brush, I picked up the lightest colour from the Instant Glow Bronzing Rocks to gently highlight my cupids bow.
I then used the Berry Crush Lip Stain all over my lips, right up to the lip line, and really soaked my lips in the beautiful pink colour.  I used the balm at the end of this double-ended wonder to moisturise, soften the look and give the lips a luscious sheen.

Finally, I used the Powder Brush to sweep the Instant Glow Bronzing Powder for Face and Body over my neck and décolleté.

And there you have it.  What do you think?

PS I put on a very old flowery top to compliment the Spring Bloom I was trying to create - good idea or not?
