DIY Facial

I wasn’t going to post about this, but after a flurry of tweets in response to my innocent little tweet about my DIY facial yesterday, coupled with all the lovely compliments about my skin today, I thought I’d better share, in true blogger style.

Snowed in on Sunday, with all plans cancelled, I decided to firstly get busy in the kitchen and made a full roast lunch for the family.  After that, a little self indulgence and pampering pour moi!

There are so many different products and brands I love, so I decided to mix and match and this is what I did:

Firstly, I cleansed using the Emma Hardie Moringa Cleansing Balm, initially massaging my face with it, then going over it with my Clarisonic (my desert-island, can’t-be-without gadget) and wiping clean with the muslin side of the Emma Hardie Cleansing Cloth. Then, for a double cleanse, I used my Perricone MD Nutritive Cleanser, again with the Clarisonic.

Fully cleansed, I then used the Deep Cleansing Mask by Omorovicza -  I love this brand after having the most heavenly facial by Omorovicza at Harrods’ Urban Retreat last year.  I put on a thin layer, probably thinner than it should be, because I want to make my little jar of it last as long as possible!  After five minutes, I washed it off, again using the Clarisonic to wet and massage it over the face before rinsing.  It doesn’t say that you should do this with the mask – that’s just me in love with my Clarisonic.

I then used the Omorovicza Rose Serum all over my face, followed by my Bare Minerals Active Soil Firming Eye Treatment around the eye area and Bobbi Brown Vitamin Enriched Face Base as an intense and indulgent moisturiser.

Even I could see the difference immediately, and the response from the family was just perfect – lots of oohs and aahs, and “can I touch your skin, mummy?”!!

The two things I didn’t do which I would do next time is steam and exfoliate, but for a last minute, spur-of-the-moment job, I think it went pretty well.

The skin still looks suitably plumped and hydrated today, which I put down to the fabulous Rose Serum and the Vitamin Enriched Face Base, which has become my go-to moisturiser in the colder winter months.

Do you have a DIY facial regime? I’d love to hear about it!

  1. You've totally changed my view on what my DIY facials should be like. I'll usually cleanse with an oil or Saaf Organic Pure Face Cleanser which is a balm and I'll use the Saaf muslin cloth. Then I'll steam, use Dermalogica's Multivitamin Thermafoliant. Once I've done exfoliating I'll then either use a LUSH face mask or mix bentonite clay and yoghurt together leave it on for roughly 10 minutes then I'm done.

I love double cleansing, I've seen the benefits it's had on my skin so I'll definitely be incorporating that into my DIY facial routine. Roughly how often do you do the facial?

  2. Thank you... In answer to your question, not often enough! But I'll definitely get round to a mini-version of this once a week.

I like your routine. I've been told that it's good to exfoliate AFTER you've applied a clay mask, as the mask will have drawn the impurities to the surface, so then you need to slough it all off and away from you skin.... just something to think about.

And I'll always use a serum after exfoliating - getting rid of all those dead skin cells means my expensive serums can work that much more efficiently.
